Chief's Message
Nataraj IPSFire and Rescue Services Department of the Government of Tamil Nadu is entrusted with the task of fire fighting and rescue operations in times of emergency. “We Serve to Save” is the lofty objective of the department and every one of the personnel in the department has the onerous task of saving the people in distress. I am indeed proud to head this service department. It will be my endeavor to ensure that the delivery of services to the public at large reaches with least delay.

The ‘Madras Fire Brigade’ commissioned way back to 1908 has grown to a full fledged Fire and Rescue Services Department with a strength of 6698 personnel and operates through 286 Fire and Rescue Services Stations located in all the 32 districts in Tamil Nadu. The Fire Fighter has a unique place in the society since his main task is to save people and their belongings in any calamity either natural or man-made. He has to have enormous physical strength and agile mental ability as his occupation takes him from one danger to another to meet the challenges posed by such calamities.

Our focus should be to reach out to the people in a proactive way, educate them on fire hazards in an effort to prevent fire mishaps. The personnel should hone their skills in rescue operations. They should ensure that the infirm, children, women are protected first in any eventuality. Our action should uphold the Human rights of individuals and that of special groups like Senior Citizens, Physically Challenged, Women and Children.

Fire Safety is no accident. Hence we have to co-ordinate with other departments like Police, Civil Administration and Society to achieve safe and hazard free environment.

My sincere Best Wishes to all the Fire Service Personnel in all their noble endeavors.

R. Nataraj IPS
DGP / Director
